چکیده

Earlier studies with the aid of radioactive phosphorus as an indicator have shown that the rate of the formation of phospholipides in the liver of rats was definitely higher when the diet contained large proportions of fats (1). It seems probable that in these experiments adequate amounts of choline or choline precursors were available to the animals. On the other hand the administration of choline to rats on low protein diets markedly stimulates the turnover of liver phospholipides as measured by the introduction into their molecule of either radioactive phosphorus (24) or isotopic choline nitrogen (5). In these studies only high fat diets were employed. In the present investigation an attempt has been made to study, under strictly comparable conditions, the action of single large doses of choline or fat, or both, on the formation of phospholipides in the liver of rats previously maintained on a low fat, low protein diet. For the purpose of comparison a few experiments were made on rats maintained on an adequate stock diet. Moreover, in most of our animals, determinations were also carried out on the lipides of the small intestine. It was hoped that the results of these determinations could supply additional information on the lipide phosphorylation in the intestine after administration of choline and fat. Preliminary findings on this subject have already been described and discussed briefly (6).

Effects of Lipotropic Products on Productive Performance, Liver Lipid and Enzymes Activity in Broiler Chickens

In a 42-d experiment, 576 one-day-old Vencobb 308 broiler chicks were used to investigate the effects of lecithin extract (0.5 g/kg), choline chloride 60% (1 g/kg) and Bio choline (1 g/kg) in diets of moderate and high energy in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement on performance and certain physiological traits in broiler chickens. The inclusion of Bio choline and lecithin extract in the diet signifi...

Dietary Garlic Powder Supplementation Could Ameliorate Unfavorable Effects of Choline Deficiency on the Liver Health and Immune System of Broiler Chickens

Effects of different levels of choline and garlic powder on performance, liver health and immune response in broiler chickens were evaluated in this study. A factorial experiment with 2 dietary choline levels (the recommended level in Ross 308 broiler guidelines and 25 % less than the recommendation) and 3 dietary garlic powder levels (0, 5 or 10 g/kg diet) was conducted using Ross 308 broiler ...

Effect of Encapsulated Choline Chloride on Performance, Carcass Characteristics and Some Blood Parameters in Broiler Chicks

This study examined the effects of various levels of dietary encapsulated choline chloride (ECC) on growth performance, carcass characteristics, serum and liver lipids content in Ross 308 broilers. A total of 480 day-old broilers were assigned to eight dietary treatments with six replicates of 10 birds each from 1 to 21 days of age. Eight experimental diets were provided from a basal non-added ...

Kwashiorkor Type of Fatty Liver in Primates

Fatty livers resembling those seen in the early stages of kwashiorkor have been produced in primates. Monkeys were fed, for about 1 year, purified diets free from choline and betaine and low in methionine. Supplementation with choline slightly improved food consumption and gain in weight. Choline prevented the appearance of any stainable lipide in the liver of the control animals. The extent to...
